March – May
Beds and lawns come back. We plant and move shrubs while the soil is cool, start lawn care, and watch for insects and disease before the heat.

Winter debris out of the beds, dead growth cut back, and the yard set up so new plantings have room.
New shrubs in while the ground is still cool and damp. Placed, watered in, and mulched so they take.
First cuts of the year once the rains ease. Height kept up so the lawn fills in instead of stressing out.
Move shrubs that outgrew the spot or sit in the wrong light. Spring is the window before they push hard.
Look shrubs over as they leaf out. Catch scale, aphids, and chew-damage early.
Fungus and dieback show first in spring. Cut out the bad wood so it doesn’t spread.
Regular cuts through the valley heat. Height stays up so the turf holds moisture instead of burning out.
Beds kept clean and plantings looked after so the yard doesn’t slide in July and August.
Shape after the spring flush. Off the house, off the walks, clippings taken with us.
Hot months are when mites and borers show. Treat the shrubs that need it.
Heat plus water is when leaf spot and mildew run. Keep air through the plant.
Fill gaps that opened in the heat. Summer planting is for the right shrubs, not a full bed redo.
June – August
Heat is the test. Lawn care keeps going, shrubs get a trim after the flush, and we stay on insects before they take a hedge down.

September – November
Best window to plant and move shrubs before the rains, trim what’s overgrown, and get the lawn through the last growth of the year.

Fall is the strongest planting window in Fairfield. Roots settle over winter and push in spring.
Move shrubs that never liked the spot. Cooler air, warm soil — they take with less shock than in July.
Cut back what got away over summer. Structure now, so the plant isn’t a mess in March.
Last real growth of the year. Keep it neat going into the rains without scalping it.
Beds cut back, spent growth out, and the yard put to bed so it doesn’t mat over winter.
Cut out diseased wood before the rains lock the problem in.
Dormant prune while the structure shows. Hardwoods and ornamentals, not a summer haircut.
Take out shrubs that are dead, crowding the house, or past saving. Cleaner on wet ground.
Move what you want to keep. Dormant plants handle a relocation better than in leaf.
Storm-downed branches out of the beds, and a clean yard until things leaf again.
Walk the shrubs between storms. Dieback is easier to see without leaves in the way.
Off-season cuts as needed, and the lawn watched so it doesn’t mat under standing water.
December – February
Rainy stretch, and the window for dormant work. Shrubs get pruned and moved while they’re asleep. Removals are cleaner on wet ground.
